Clinical Characteristics of Inpatient Alcoholics Based on ASI

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to systemically analyze the process of assessment for the intervention not only for the behavior therapy of alcoholics but the change of social environment including family in order to decrease the chronicity of
alcoholism
due to frequent relapses and increase the outcome of the treatment through precise assessment.
The results was collected through the application of ASI, MAST, SCL-90-R and FTQ to the 39 alcoholics admitted in alcohol treatment center.
As a result of the study, the following implication for the establishment of the treatment plan was obtained.
1) There is no significance of difference in severity of alcohol dependence between alcoholics with FHP and alcoholics with FHN.
2) The inpatient alcoholics have pschopathologies like depression, phobia and aggressive tendency.
3) ASI was proved as a useful instrument for the assessment of the severity ratings for the various areas of alcohol problems, although the denial, the psychological characteristics of alcoholics tended to decrease or distort alcohol-related
problem.
4) As a result of chronicity of alcohol dependence, the ability to do a job effectively was gradually decreased and lost finally and the severity of alcohol dependence was made worse.
In conclusion, ASI fairly showed the characteristics of alcoholics during the process of assessment and it is possible to establish the plan of treatment according to the individual problem area and severity of alcohol dependence through the ASI.
